Wild Buster: Heroes of Titan is a defunct MMORPG by Insel Games that launched into Steam early access on December 14, 2017. It was shutdown, rebranded, and relaunched as Champions of Titan by IDC Games on August 10, 2018, but it was permanently shutdown again on August 31, 2020.

History

Crowdfunding and launch

Patrick Streppel, CEO of Insel Games, began crowdfunding Wild Buster: Heroes of Titan through Indiegogo.com on August 29, 2017. The campaign raised a total of $13,003 USD. The game successfully launched into Steam early access on December 14, 2017.

Temporary shutdown

On February 12, 2018, a Reddit user posted evidence that Insel Games had "threatened employees" to post positive reviews of the company's games. The Reddit post went viral, garnering at least 2,900 upvotes. Shortly thereafter, Valve conducted an investigation which found that Insel Games had been posting customer reviews using accounts that were controlled by their own employees, which violated Steam's review policy. Consequently, Wild Buster was permanently banned from the Steam store on February 13, 2018. However, customers who had already purchased the game were allowed to continue playing it through Steam.

Relaunch

On May 18, 2018, it was announced that the rights to Wild Buster had been sold to IDC Games and that the current platform would be shutdown due to inadequate funding and a small player base. About a month later, the game was permanently shutdown and could no longer be played through Steam. However, IDC Games rebranded the game as Champions of Titan and relaunched it as a free-to-play, closed beta through IDCGames.com in June 2018. The game was officially released to the public on August 10, 2018. Because the game was no longer owned by Insel Games, IDC Games was allowed to open a Steam page under the game's new title and to distribute it through the Steam store.

Permanent shutdown

Champions of Titan was permanently shutdown on August 31, 2020.

Relation to the Duke Nukem franchise

Duke Nukem was advertised as a custom player skin in Wild Buster: Heroes of Titan. A Duke Nukem-themed promotional trailer showed Duke Nukem, voiced by Jon St. John, arguing with Serious Sam. Duke Nukem was also featured in promotional artwork. The game was otherwise unrelated to the Duke Nukem franchise.
