The AWOL Project is a total conversion for Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition. It was created by The Elite 5 and Realer Than Reality Productions. It was originally released as version 0.99 on March 15th, 2007; an enhanced version, which updated the mod to version 1.0, was released on June 20th, 2007. A map pack with 91 levels was released on May 22nd, 2008. The AWOL Project features new graphics such as a new sprite for the player's character (a soldier), a new enemy, new sound effects, voice-overs, levels, weapons, and multiple new gameplay features.

DevelopmentEdit

Development on The AWOL Project began in 2002 and ended in 2005 due to a lack of mapping talent, leaving the mod incomplete.

Gameplay & Features Edit

The AWOL Project features new gameplay elements including:

  • Three friendly A.I. bots that will help the player:
    • Flamethrower A.I. bot
    • Medic A.I. bot (heals the player and other friendly A.I. bots)
    • Radio A.I. bot (calls in for supplies and air strikes)
  • Three new vehicles that the player can use:
    • Apache (can fly and shoot missiles)
    • Jeep (can fire M60 rounds)
    • Tank (can fire missiles, M60 rounds, and a 120mm Cannon)

  • C-4 Explosive (uses a new sprite, Laser Tripbomb replacement)
  • AK-47 (uses a new sprite, Freezethrower replacement)
