Duke Nukem Wiki

The Duke Nukem I game is filled with items. Some reward points, others boost your strength, and some are vital to your success.

They come in three colours: blue, red and grey. They cannot be collected, but shooting them opens them and reveals their contents. Blue boxes contain bonus prizes, red boxes contain food, and grey boxes contain either important items, bombs or nothing.

Important items[]

These items are picked up, and stay picked up for the rest of the episode (except Keys, which are dropped when used). When picked up, all these items will give 1,000 points.

  • Key
Comes in four colours: red, green, dark blue and purple. Used to open locks of the matching colour.
  • Access Card
A computer circuit board-looking card. Used to deactivate electric barriers at the ends of some levels.
  • Nuclear Pistol
Increases firepower (unless firepower is already at maximum). That is, it allows one extra shot to be on-screen at once.
  • Super Jump Boots
Used to jump higher.
  • Grappling Hook
Looks like a claw. Used to hang from and glide across grated ceilings.
  • Robohand
Used to extend bridges and other things.

Health items[]

  • Cola Can
Gives 200 points and restores 1 unit of health. If shot, it flies up into the air, and if caught, it gives 1,000 points (but no health).
  • Turkey
A turkey leg that gives 100 points and 1 unit of health. If shot, it turns into a whole cooked turkey, which gives 200 points and 2 units of health instead.
  • Atomic Health
Gives 1,000 points and restores health to full.

Points-only items[]

These items award only points, and serve no other purpose.

  • Football
Gives 100 points.
  • Joystick
Gives 2,000 points.
  • DN Diskette
Gives 5,000 points.
  • Red Balloon
Gives 10,000 points. Floats up when revealed, will pop if shot or if it hits anything (will grant no points if it pops).
  • Radio
Gives 100 - 5,000 points.
  • Purple Flag
Gives 100 - 5,000 points.
  • D.U.K.E.
Four big letters, one set per level. Gives 500 points each, but when all four are collected in the right order, gives 10,000 points (and will also give another 10,000 points at the end of the level).
