For the Duke Nukem 3D enemy, see Assault Captain (DN3D).

The Assault Captain is an enemy in Duke Nukem Forever. It is also known as Assault Trooper Captain.

Description[]

Like the original, it has red armor, can teleport, and has a jetpack like their Assault Trooper brethren. However this time around the Assault Captain has armor plating on his legs, shoulders and arms as well as sporting a helmet. The armor plating and the helmet enables him to take additional punishment and protects it from headshots until the helmet has been removed. Instead of carrying the AT Laser as wielded by their Assault Trooper brethren, they carry the more powerful AT Captain Laser which is faster and stronger than the AT version, and has the ability of fully automatic fire. Due to the Assault Captains ability to teleport around they can quickly capture women and almost immediately teleport away before Duke can react.

Combat Analysis[]

Assault Captains are more efficient and dangerous than their standard kin and are noticeably more dangerous than the original. Due to their armor, superior firepower and teleportation they are a lot harder to kill than Assault Troopers. Assault Captains can teleport around quickly and will often try to teleport behind the player when possible. Their ability to teleport and fly around with their jetpack allows them to avoid incoming fire from greater distances. The player needs to stay alert and watch for when Assault Captains teleport, since they will return to the battlefield a few seconds later, often behind the player. Make sure to spin the player around so they are facing the enemy when it returns, if possible.

To minimize the frequent spamming of it's teleport ability, try to stick with attacks that do as much damage as possible with a single shot. The Shotgun is an excellent candidate as a point-blank shot can kill one with one blast, even on the highest difficulty level (to the chest). Railgun, M1911 Pistol headshot and RPG (DNF) are good alternatives. Try to avoid using the Ripper, various alien weapons and Machine_Gun_Turret if possible.

When the Assault Captain takes hits to it's armor plates and helmet, they will fall off, exposing their body to damage. Any type of explosive weapon or attack that can do splash damage will remove most, if not all the plates off the enemy. This can include friendly fire from other enemies, such as an Enforcer; while the attacks will not do any 'physical' harm, they can still blow away armor plates.

Unlike it's counterpart from Duke Nukem 3D it cannot play dead and thus has no chance of getting up again; once gunned down it will not get up again.

Notes[]

  • Assault Captains wear special plated armour on their head, arms and legs that can deflect incoming fire and melee attacks before it flies off . Each piece of armor has 1 HP, but can absorb the full blast of a non-splash damage attack. This can give them the appearance of one having more health than they actually do. Their chest does not have this plating; players can safely shoot there to avoid wasting ammunition.
  • There is a unique encounter on the mission Crash Course: An Assault Captain will grab Duke with the intention of dropping him to his death. The player must rip off the helmet and punch it's head off before steering the flying corpse into The Duke Burger.
  • Several invincible Assault Captains are seen killing civilians and kidnapping women in The Lady Killer.
