The Alien Fighter is an enemy in Duke Nukem Forever.
Description[]
Alien Fighters are small and exceptionally fast atmospheric ships that are deployed in groups, though on occasion they will perform solo attacks. They are encountered in outdoor levels and can be easily shot down with turrets.
Combat Analysis[]
There are only two occasions where the player has to attack them. In both instance the players mans a turret and their health is not their default value. In all other instances, they can be ignored. They will attack in one of two ways:
- An air-to-air pulse cannon, that while per damage is not impressive, the damage can quickly add up if left unchecked.
- A ground laser that can do a serious amount of damage per hit.
Mothership Battle[]
Alien Fighters should always get priority in battle. Their laser is a high-threat weapon and all firepower should be concentrated on the single fighter that approaches or the middle fighter when a wing of three appears. When they spawn they will initially fly to either the left or right of the player before flying in (there is no fixed pattern) and attempt to take their shot. Due to how damage is taken by the Alien Mothership there is never any reason to hold down the trigger while attacking it, so holding down the trigger should be saved for the fighters when they approach, and take any random shots possible at the mothership, in-between.

Crash Course[]
Often noted by fans as one of the most difficult parts of the game to complete at the highest difficulty due to the relentless nature of the fighters, the player must man a turret and fend off several waves. They will appear 1-2 at a time and will start firing at the player with good accuracy. Breaks are rare and few-inbetween so it is important to start attacking them as soon as possible when the player has a clear shot. Setting the controls to minimum values can help to prevent the player from overshooting/missing the target along the way.
The initial Alien Fighters that appear (the ones that fly by and do not attack the player) can be ignored; they are not part of the attack wave and shooting them down will not contribute anything towards the battle.
